Peggy (Margaret)'s Story
Life
I've got a degree in biology from the University of Alaska, but worked as a bookkeeper in my husband's business (Appraisal Group of the Northwest LLP). We married in 1974 and have two "kids," a son born in 1980 and a daughter born in 1983. My husband died on a solo hike in 2018. Our son is a real estate appraiser for WSDOT, and our daughter is an industrial electrician, although she's taking a break to care for her father-in-law who is no longer mobile. She and my son-in-law have been doing the janitorial service, maintenance, renovations, and remodels of the rentals that I now own, manage, and do bookkeeping for.
For many years now, I've been doing trail construction twice a week, volunteering for the City of Newcastle as a member of NewcastleTrails.org. I feel really lucky to be able to do what I love, having been taught mostly by my Dad. He and my grandfat...Expand for more
her had both done trail construction for the Civilian Conservation Corps. I've supervised over 40 Eagle Scout projects, mostly building segments of trails. Currently (2023 January) I'm working on the CrossTown Trail on a section that is essentially the north end of De Leo Wall. The goal is to continue long enough to finish Newcastle's planned trail system.
I used to sing in Con Brio women's choir, but got too hoarse to continue. The kids went through Columbia Choirs from preparatory through children's concert and youth choirs, touring every year (internationally every other year). My husband loved to travel, so we usually did parallel tours, "dipping in" for concerts. One year, we continued on as a family around the world--a wonderful experience for all of us. Sporadically, my granddaughter has joined the choir, alternating with art and other intriguing activities.
